Effects of Media on Politics:
Media has a huge responsibility of telling the truth to the public. Media acts as an eye and ear of the public. Media is referred to as the fourth pillar of any country’s democracy. People used to watch the news daily to get to know about what is happening around them. The news media has a direct influence on the politics of the country.
Free media has four main purposes in the politics of a country:
- Making leaders of the country accountable to people and judiciary.
- Discuss issues which need the attention of public and government officials.
- Making the public aware so that they can decide to choose better government officials for them.
- Connecting leaders with the public.
Making leaders of the country accountable to people and judiciary:
Media plays a very major role in making government leaders accountable for the position they were having. For example in Pakistan in the case of “Panama Leaks” faced by Nawaz Sharif and his family media took huge responsibility of making him accountable in front of judiciary. And media conveyed the truth to the public and in this way, he was punished and they sentenced to jail.
Discuss issues which need the attention of public and government officials:
Media took responsibility for highlighting those issues which need the attention of government and plays a role in making people aware of those issues. For example, when there was a major issue of terrorism in Pakistan media played a very positive role in highlighting that issue and then after that government and army took a step to eradicate terrorism from the country.

Media plays a huge role to spread awareness in public about those people who are taking part in the election to become government officials so media-aware public about their character, credibility and ability to perform as a government official. For example in Pakistan when there are elections media tells everything about the person who is participating in an election like there education, financial status and everything is known by the public through media.
Connecting leaders with public
Media acts as a bridge between leaders and the public. Media calls leaders in talk shows and ask them those questions which are in the mind of the public. For example, in Pakistan, these talk shows have huge value because the question in these shows is representatives of public minds.

Most of the time’s media influence the elections like people watching the coverage of election campaigns of election get influenced by the media. And sometimes a media group is supporting some party in an election that has a huge influence on elections.
Telling truth about polling
Media plays a role in telling the truth about the incidents happening in the process of polling like fights between two groups or rigging complaints in the election. Media has the responsibility in of portraying the truth about every incident that has happened.
Ensure transparent elections:
Media has the responsibility of ensuring free and transparent election. If they get complain about rigging in any voting area they should give coverage to that news and tries to complain to officials to stop that.
Telling results honestly:
After elections end there is a trend that results of elections comes side by side so media have the responsibility to tell the results to the public honestly without favoring anyone or without changing the result. They should tell the results properly to the public.
Social Media and Politics:
The increasing use of Facebook Twitter and YouTube has changed the dynamics of politics. Political leaders and political parties are now active on these social media platforms. Election campaigns are now running through social media. They use it for increasing their supporters or reducing other’s party supporters.

Social media have many benefits in politics some of them are as follows:
Direct connection with supporters:
Social media platforms provide direct connection of leaders with their voters. People can connect with their leaders and tell them their problems without any hurdle or third party involved.
Advertising their agendas:
Political parties or leaders can advertise their agendas openly on social media platforms. They can tell people openly that why should people support them and tell them that they will solve their problems.
After the revolution of social media mostly election campaigns are going on social media sites. Leaders don’t need any other platforms they can do it easily on social media without wasting money on Television advertisements.
Using against their opponents:
Political parties and leaders sometimes use social media sites as a tool against their opponents. When any party gets any weak point of other party or leader they fully use it on social media to reduce his support and to increase theirs.
Increasing their Funds:
Political parties can use social media sites to do fundraising and to convince their supporters in supporting them in fundraising. This is the easiest and cheap way to tell your message to most of the people out there.
Getting positive or negative feedbacks:
Political parties use the platform of social media to get to know about the feedback given by the public about their performances.
Knowing public opinion about themselves:
Social media is the best platform to know what people think out them. The gets to know whether people are supporting them or they are against them.
Using for controversy:
Political parties use social media sites to highlight previous controversies about other leaders or to create new controversies about other parties or leaders.
